Vision Statement

To acquire, preserve and display artifacts of Caribou, ME for the viewing, education and appreciation of visitors.

Mission Statement

THE MISSION OF THE CARIBOU HISTORICAL CENTER & MUSEUM is to collect, record, publish, display, and preserve data relevant to the history of Caribou, and the Caribou area; to collect and preserve articles, specimens, and material objects, either original items or authentic replicas, illustrative and demonstrative of the customs, modes, and habits of former times, specifically the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s, to thus perpetuate the memory of those who, by their labors and heroism, contributed to make the history of the area mentioned.

Why we are here?

Without specific dedicated efforts by individuals in the community, local history has an inevitable way of silently disappearing. We find this as tragic as the deaths of local people who take their unique stories with them. History gives us examples, a collective memory, from which young and old alike can learn. It gives us a sense of belonging, a sense of tradition. History gives us an important glimpse of humanity in general and a footing for our lives. We, at the Caribou Historical Center & Museum, feel compelled to do what we do to protect and preserve our cultural history.
